Bend It Like Bauer

I heard through the grape vine that poop is the new pink! Whenever I hear that saying (grape vine) I think of those creepy California Rasins that sang songs, and you would get the box of their rasin in your halloween bag (why people thought as children we loved rasiens is still a mysterty too me), I felt like I was eatting those little characters out of a box.

It has just been brought to my attention (stereogum.com) that FINALLY after five years Veruca Salt is releasing a new album on September 12. The title being IV to represent that it is the fourth album. However, I don’t understand why Louise Post would do this, I mean Veruca Salt is completely a different band then when “American Thighs” and “Eight Arms to Hold You” meaning the only member that was apart of VS was Post. I love this band dearly, and I have always loved Loiuse style of writing, but I wish that the album name was different. Then again, what the fuck does it really member? I am still going to buy it.

Veruca Salt was one of those staples in my life, for awhile I thought that women in music were kind of the lame slog, sad music, so I wasn’t huge into it. I was shoping at a cd store in Saskastoon, must have been thirthteen at the time, and saw the album “American Thighs” it was like 7.99, or something. I remember I always thought that Veruca Salt was something to do with the Velvet Underground, to this day I can not tell you why I thought this, but I bought the cd. I would listen to that album of repeat. I remember we went up to Utah to visit my mom’s family and we were driving through the graveyard that her grandmother was buried (or it was a pet semertary) and the song that I remember was “Fly” which forever was my favorite track, though it was soon replaced with “Number One Blind.”

Back to what I was saying about woman in the music industry, there was Hole, though I hadn’t discovered “Live Through This,” but I owed all The Cranberries albums and thought Sheryl Crow was awesome, and “crazysexycool” was the great thing since sliced bread (note: I hate that saying I wish that I never said it). Veruca Salt opened this door to bands like Babes In Toyland, Belly and Tanya Donelly, L7, Pet, Letters To Cleo (who’s drummer joined Veruca Salt, who is now lead singer of American Hi-fi, Stacey Jones) The Breeders, Pj Harvey, Juliana Hatfield and etc, and this chick could rock, not just rock but FUCKING rock.

This is what started it, this one little band that in 1997 broke my heart when band member and best friend forever Nina Gordon and Louise Post called it quits and made me doubt all my current friendship last (I still have two from when I lived in Saskatoon, but hey I moved around a lot and discovered hip hop and writing pornographic love stories.) But all good thing come to an end…sometimes.

Ps I never discovered hip hop, I just love the “Ridin” song, and T.I. Also if anyone that reads this care Jason Collette has an amazing solo album out that feature some of Broken Social Scene, Amy Millian (Stars, who has an amazing solo out as well), Leslie Feist (MUSHBOOM) and Emily Haines (of Metric). Fuck Canada when did we get such amazing music scene… Nickleback screwed us up for awhile.

I have ran into some major techinalogy problems in the last week. First off, my little (stupid) computer wasn't by my side for 2 entire weeks, due to the fact that everything on my computer disappeared in the black hole of space. Lucky for me I know some good computer guys that got my baby working again. However, after a day of get use to my computer being back in action, it decided to start turn off when it felt like it. One thing I have realized is that I will never own a PC again.

This morning while driving into town I realized that iPod was having a mental breakdown. And was doing the same thing as my computer. I figured that I will charge it up again and see what happens there.

It is about 3 weeks until I return back to the comforts of school, which will be a welcomed breath of fresh air considering working for 4 months and being in Winnipeg, though I have had one of the best summers in awhile, but we are starting to wrap things up, and what better way to wrap things up then head to the greatest city in Canada for labor day. That city being the one and only Regina (which most kids would slip out Vagina because it was too funny not to say). I had this hatred of Regina up until last year, I reliaze that the city and people are pretty nice if you give it a chance. Anyways I am pretty excited to get back to the basics, and even more excited to start the boarding season.

The last two day I have fallen in love with Borat. I never thought I would, because I am not a huge Ali G fan, but I think i have to re-think it because it is basically some of the funniest shit ever. I cant across his character Bruno, who might be funnier then Borat in my book.

Alright so when I find a band that I like I play them to death. Today I have three bands that I have fallen head over heels for. First would be The Pink Spiders, which I think are deliously form, and a different poppier punk.

Second is a band that I have been over looking the last 2 years, because I didnt like there EP very much. Hellogoodbye, they just released "Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinosaur!" i think the titled of the album is what drew me in, i bought it and heart it to pieces.

The last band is The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, they are kind of your typical emo-type band but their song are pretty interesting and I get sucked into them. Good stuff.

Why is it that after 8 years "Iris" by the Goo Goo Dolls is being playing at least twice a day on the radio. Don't get me wrong The Goo Goo Dolls I loved at one point...when I was in grade 7... and I will mostly likely leave the radio on when The Goo Goo Dolls come on, maybe even sing along. Still I have no understanding of why this song needs to be played 2 times a day. Maybe because Avril and Derrick first dance was to it. Funny.

I am about a week from getting my new sunnies. Myself and my little brother have an obsessions with sun glasses. I am not sure why but I love sunglasses, and mostly trendy ones. I am getting the Trons by Spy, spy seems to be the brand I favor. This being the third pair that I have bought in the last year.

Anyways this is BORING NEWS. I have nothing today. FD3 is pretty amazing though.

Nickleback Puts the Cyndi Lauper in my head.

Alright so I might have gone crazy, and personally I dislike Nickleback, but this song sounds so much like "Time After Time" I get "time after time" in my head after hearing on the radio. On top of that I love the song "Time After Time."

Example: Far Away

This time, This place
Misused, Mistakes
Too long, Too late
Who was I to make you wait
Just one chance
Just one breath
Just in case there’s just one left
‘Cause you know,
you know, you know

Example: "Time After Time"

Lying in my bed, I hear
The clock tick and think of you
Caught up in circles
Confusion is nothing new
Flashback, warm nights
Almost left behind
A suitcase of memories
Time after...
Sometimes you picture me
I'm walking too far ahead
You call out to me
I can't hear what you've said
You say, "Go slow, I fall behind."
The second hand unwinds

Maybe it is just me, but before I stopped to listen to "Far Away" I thought it was Theory of a Deadman covering Cyndi Lauper. It is probably just me.

Sick days, I love those days, mostly because it limits my life to nothing. I can sleep till one, watch 90210 in peace, and stay in my pjs…this all depends on how sick I am. Before Christmas I got so effen sick that I was in bed for two days, my roommates had no clue that I was even home until I decided (well my best friend decided for me) that I needed to get to the doctor asap. I missed an entire week of school, including my short story critic which I was completely bummed about.

I had been sick due to an effen cold sore that will not get the point and move out of the back of my mouth. This had been going on for a month now. I quit my wonderful smoking habit because of this cold sore. (however I will have a drag or so when drinking… maybe I should quit drinking too).

Two weeks ago, my power team and I went to the Charley to see “The Waking Eyes.” Now, even though I love music I have never been one to sit and watch a set from a local band that I don’t know any of the songs. I like to sing along and jump around, but this was free, and hosted my Molson Canadian (the Canadian budwiser). I must say that I had a great time watching The Waking Eyes. They were full of rock energy which I love. Also the lead singer was trying to play the piano. This really really drunk girl was trying to take his picture, in the process grabbing his hands off the piano to get him to pose (well he is trying to play this song), he took his arm and pulled it up to get her to let go, she lost her balance and fell backwards and smoked her head on a bar table, and was knocked out. It was nuts, and I laughed pretty hard about it. I mean the guy was trying to play a song and she was wasted trying to get some close ups. I thought he pushed her, but she just fell backwards. I also thought they were friends at first, until he laughed a continued to play his song.

That is about it from me for now.

This is the Waking Eyes to give you an idea what they are like. Sound something like the Beatles, well I think so.
